Patients with erectile dysfunction after radical prostatectomy, with no signs of recovery using conventional therapy, received a single intracavernous injection of autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and were followed for 1 year. Using the generally-accepted IIEF questionnaire to measure erectile function, the whole group reported that their score had increased from 6 before the stem cell transplantation surgery, to 12 after 6 months. (IIEF index range of 5 to 7 points; severe erectile dysfunction, 12 to 16 points; mild to moderate erectile dysfunction, and 22 to 25 points are normal.)
